Quantifying absolute gene expression profiles reveals distinct regulation of central carbon metabolism genes in yeast

In addition to controlled expression of genes by specific regulatory circuits, the abundance proteins and transcripts can also be influenced physiological states cell such as growth rate metabolism. Here we examine control gene metabolism, analyzing a multi-omics dataset consisting absolute-quantitative abundances transcriptome, proteome, amino acids in 22 steady-state yeast cultures. We find that transcription translation are coordinately via RNA polymerase II ribosome abundance, but they independently nitrogen metabolism acid nucleotide availabilities. Genes central carbon however, distinctly regulated do not respond or all other genes. Understanding these effects allows confounding factors accounted for profiling studies.
